Dr. Cristina Carucci graduated at University of Cagliari-Italy (M.Sc.) in 2014 with first class honours under the supervision of Prof. M. Monduzzi and Prof. A. Salis. She studied at the University of Limerick-Ireland, under the supervision of Prof. Dean E. Magner and in 2018 she was awarded a PhD. After a postdoctoral work at Université de Bordeaux (France) under the supervision of Prof. A. Kuhn and Dr. N. Mano she is now a researcher in Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences in Cagliari.

Her research focuses on the immobilization of proteins for applications in biocatalysis, drug delivery and bioelectrochemistry. In particular, she investigated enzymes immobilization (alcohol dehydrogenase, lipase, glucose oxidase, bilirubin oxidase, laccase, etc.) on nanostructured materials, such as Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and ordered mesoporous silica (OMS) and their characterization through TEM, SEM, FTIR, TGA, XRD, DLS, ELS N2-isotherm techniques. During her PostDoc she worked in bioelectrochemistry, specifically on the development of macroporous gold electrodes with immobilized enzymes for implantable biofuel cells in vitro and in vivo. She is currently investigating the immobilization and release of antimicrobial peptides from mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) for the develpment of drug delivery systems.

Her research is based on biophysical chemistry nevertheless she had the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary environments with researchers coming from a variety of backgrounds such as biology, engineering and material sciences. She participated to 6 international conferences as oral presenter and to 5 international conferences as poster presenter. She was in the organizing committee of the International conference “Interfaces 2021” https://convegni.unica.it/interfaces. She is author or co-author of 20 peer-reviewed publications and 4 scientific covers with an H-index of 9 and 257 citations. She is reviewer for ACS, De Gruyter, RSC, Elsevier, MDPI, Springer and Wiley (https://publons.com/researcher/1365565/cristina-carucci).
