The first goal of the course is to understand the fundamentals of Chemical Reactions Engineering. This will be achieved through reasoning rather than by memorizing the many equations and conditions that govern the applicability of each equation. To achieve this, I think of:
1. Propose the solution of basic problems according to traditional methodologies, this will strengthen students' understanding of basic concepts and principles;
2. Propose the solution of exercises that require the consultation of texts other than those used and the deepening of some knowledge.
The second objective, in accordance with what the "Dublin descriptors" require for first-cycle degrees, will be to obtain an "autonomy of judgment" in the sense that the student will acquire a critical capacity that will make him capable of experimental data and interpret them critically;
The third objective is the ability to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to specialist and non-specialist stakeholders.
The skills that will be acquired are in the following areas:
1. Ability to interpret kinetic data and assess the order of reaction and kinetic constant from it;
2. Ability to calculate conversions that can be obtained in batch reactors with any elementary kinetics, both in constant volume systems as well as in variable volume systems;
3. ability to know the cultural limitations associated with the concept of "ideal reactor" and thus know how to determine their applicability or not to real systems;
4. ability to perform both project and test calculations of ideal fluid dynamics chemical reactors;
5. ability to communicate the results of their work in an essential but complete and clear way.
In conclusion, students will acquire the ability to answer the following questions in the field of kinetics and ideal chemical reactors:
Because a certain choice has been made;
You can make an alternative choice;
What kind of generalisation can be gained from the results achieved;
Why was this question asked


Basic chemistry; knowledge and ability to apply the principles of conservation, mathematical analysis; chemical balance: transport phenomena;


The course includes three topics:
1) The study of the basics of chemical engineering (analysis of degrees of freedom, balances of matter and energy);
2) the chemical and physical kinetics of chemical processes
3) the study of ideal fluid dynamics reactors.

Teaching Methods

The course consists of 90 frontal hours of which 60 of theory and 30 exercises. In addition to this there are three exercises to be carried out at home in seven days, the three exercises carried out correctly give the right to take the oral test directly without supporting the preliminary writing.

Verification of learning

The vote in thirty-three expresses an overall assessment of the oral set written. The written test only has the function of admission to the oral test. The proper performance of three exercises during the school year allows the right, within the calendar year, to take the oral exam directly.
