Objectives

The course consists of a part of Internal Medicine and a part of surgery. The aim of the course is to teach the student how to collect the clinical history and how to make the physical examination. Particular attention will be paid to the doctor-patient relationship, the role of the medical record and its compilation. First approach to anamnesis. General rules of anamnesis. Introduction to the methodology of patient’s visit trough an approach to diseases, which can induce abnormalities, found during the clinical visit of the patient. This phase uses a basis of anatomy, biochemistry, physiology and patology. The following systems are considered: gut and liver, renal, heart and thorax. Moreover information on the haemostatic system is given. The physical approach to the patient is described with practical details.

• Cushing syndrome
• Addison’s disease
• Metabolic syndrome
• Angina and myocardial infarction
• Cardiac murmurs
• How to visit lynphonodes

General Surgery:
The diagnostic process: the Patient–Physician Relationship. Medical history: family diseases, social history, past medical history, history of the present illness. The medical records. Examination of swellings and wounds. Physiopathology of hydro-electrolytic balance; Homeostasis and impairment of sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium. Acid-base balance: acidosis and alkalosis (secondary to respiratory and metabolic diseases)
