Objectives

At the end of the course, the student should:
- know the structural organization and the normal functioning of the locomotor apparatus in order to understand the main pathological alterations and to argue about clinical aspects and diagnosis;
- be able to learn autonomously and to provide understandable and univocal description of the acquired notions through the use of correct terminology;
- be able to combine the acquired notions in order to solve complex problems within interdisciplinary contexts.

Contents

External and surface anatomy. Anatomical position of reference, lines and planes, anatomical terminology. Regions and body cavities.
LOCOMOTOR APPARATUS. Organogenesis. Classification of bones and joints. Bones of the brain-skull and face, cranial, temporal, infratemporal and pterygopalatine fossae. Orbital, nasal, paranasal, buccal cavities. General and distinctive characteristics of the vertebrae. Thoracic cage. Bones of the extremities. Analytic study (articular surfaces, capsule, ligaments, movements) of the joints temporo-mandibular, intervertebral, cranio-vertebral, costo-vertebral, shoulder, elbow, hip, knee. Overview of skeletal muscles. Muscles and fasciae of the head, neck, thorax, back, abdomen. Origin, insertion, location, action of the muscles of shoulder, arm, hip, thigh, and masticatory. Axillary cavity. Inguinal canal. Femoral triangle and canal of femoral vessels. Muscles of forearm, hand, leg, foot.
PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. Organization of spinal nerves and plexuses. Spinal plexuses and their main branches, anatomical and functional aspects and basics on the course.

Functional anatomy of the cranial nerves. essential elements of their apparent origin and course. Organization and main branches of the trigeminal nerve. General organization of the visceral nervous system, sensory and motor components, relationship with the spinal nerves, signs on relations with the cranial nerves (Odd Course)

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods and interaction techniques in the presence of the teacher:
Dialogue in the classroom aimed to understand the issues addressed and the management of doubts.
Combination of lectures and pratice supported by the teacher by using anatomical models.

Methods and distance learning techniques:
the teacher-student communications will be supported with electronic means, including email interaction. The slides of the lectures will be available to the students.

Verification of learning

Assessment of the course arguments knowledge, of the learning skill, of the ability to connect different themes, of the communication skill, and of the use of specific and appropriated terminology.

The evaluation will be conducted through an Oral examination which will take place during the periods laid down in the C.L. teaching calendar.

At the end of the examination the eligibility will be assessed.
