Objectives

Skin diseases: knowledge of the main skin pathologies due to bacteria, fungi, virus, parassites and protozoa; most common inflammatory diseases (psoriasis, lichen planus), autoimmune bullous diseases, allergologic dermatology (contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, drug adverse reactions), skin manifestations of connective tissue disease, acne, rosacea, alopecia, melanoma and non melanoma skin cancers, skin lymphomas, Kaposi disease.
Venereal diseases: knowledge of the main sexually transmitted diseases, of first and second generation, with diagnosis and therapy principles.
Infective diseases: knowledge of the main infective pathologies, of the main pathogens for the humans, with explanation of their pathogenetic mechanism and host defense reponse. Knowledge of the main infective syndromes, general principles of therapy and prevention.

Prerequisites

Analytical and problem-solving ability, autonomous learning of new knowledge and critical processing of the information conveyed from the lecturer (Maastricht, 1999).
Lessons attendance is mandatory.

Skin diseases:
o Anatomy and physiology of the skin, elementary lesions.
o Viral skin infections
o Psoriasis
o Pemphigus and pemphigoids
o Lichen planus
o Kaposi's disease
o Piodermitis (skin bacterial infections)
o Dermatophytosis, candidiasis,pyitiriasis versicolore.
o Dermatozoonosis
o Skin Leishmaniosis
o Skin manifestations of connective diseases
o Contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, urticaria, acne , rosacea, alopecia
o Skin cancers, lymphomas.
o Melanoma

Venereal Diseases
o Siphylis
o Venereal ulcer/ chancroid; venereal lymphogranulomas
o Blenorrhagia and non gonococcal infections
o Herpes genitali
o HPV infections

Malattie Infettive
o Principi generali:eziologia,epidemiologia,patogenesi, diagnosi e profilassi delle malattie infettive Meccanismi di difesa dell’ospite:immunità innata e acquisita
o Nosocomial infections
o Respiratory infections: Influenza, Polmoniti infettive (comunitarie ed ospedaliere)
o Tubercolosis and atypical micobacteriosis
o Intestinal infections
o Botulism
o Herpesvirus infections
o Brucellosis
o Rickettsiosis
o Meningitis
o Sepsis
o Acute and chronic Viral Hepatitis
o HIV infection and related syndromes
o basis of antibiotic, antiviral treatments

Verification of learning

Oral examination (every month - timetable published on the faculty web site): semi-structured exam
Quality evaluation of: diseases knowledge acquired, ability of correlation between concepts, and presentation skill.
1 question from the program arguments for each module of the course.
Final grade is expressed as the weighted average of each module, on the base of the assigned credits.
