According to the descriptors of Dublin, the course aims at spreading the knowledge of the main obstetrical, gynecological, neonatal and pediatric pathologies, to evaluate the learning with simulated clinical cases and interactive lessons, to evaluate the practical use of the acquired knowledge, to evaluate the ability of making their own opinion by using information coming from external sources of which some examples of utilization are provided, to give communicative abilities with particular attention to the parental communication, to the monitoring of the efficacy of the bidirectional communication of which some examples are provided, to the observation and the understanding of the gestural communication, to the modality of avoiding communicative conflicts of opposition favoring the communication with instructions and dialogue techniques.
At the end of the course, the student must know the structural and functional features of the pediatric environment, the assistive approach of the hospitalized child, the main psychological aspects of the hospitalized child in the different phases of development and the importance of the parental role in the cure and assistance process, the intervention of health education, the peculiarities of the assistive process in the neonatal and pediatric area, .
At the end of the course the student must be able to:
1)Describe the peculiarities of the assistive process in neonatal and pediatric area.
2)Describe the modalities of the detection of the individual and collective needs of the population in the neonatal and pediatric area.
3)Describe the features of the pediatric environment and the concept of family centered care.
4)Describe the general and specific elements for the nursing assistance correlated to physio-pathological alterations of the different sistems and/or apparatuses in neonatal and pediatric area.
5)Show the ability of diagnostic reasoning to manage specific cases.

The course aims at teaching the basis of clinical knowledge for the most important neonatal and pediatric disease from birth to adolescence. At the end, the student should have acquire the approach to the phisical examination of the pediatric patient at different ages.
Learn the basic concepts of auxology and growth failures. Traditional and extended programs of neonatal screening AEG, SGA, LGA.
Neonatal adaptation to extrauterine life.
Neonate classification according to gestational age and birth weight.
Neonatal jaundice
Early and late onset neonatal infections
Apgar score. Normal and patologic reflexes and neurologic responses at different ages.
Nutrition from birth to adolescence.
Puberty and its anomalies
Elements of physical examination.
Analysis of the most relevant pediatric signs and symptoms.
Fever, vomitous, cough, diarrea, acute and recurrent abdominal pain
Fever under 2 months of age.
Alert signs for bacteremia and sepsis
Respiratory infections
Obstruction of high airways
Urinary infections
Principal gastroenteric diseases
Gluten intollerance
Most frequent pediatric surgery disasese

Autism spectrum disorder
Neurological, cognitive, affective and social development of the child and the adolescent. Classification and diganostic procedures. Neurodevelopmental disorders: autistim spectrum disorders, ADHD, intellectual disability, language and specific learning distances, motor coordination., Impulses control disorders: opposingoppsotional defiant and conduct disorders. Emergencies in develpmental psychopathology. Psychoeducation and Pharacological intervention. Childhood neurological disorders: epilepsies, cerebral palsy, extrapyramidal disorders.

Teaching Methods

The course is made of a serie of formal lectures with slide projections summurizing the core points of the topic. Whenever necessary for a better comprehension, such as for the description of special diagnostic manoveur or technical procedures, videos or animations will complement slide projections. Participation of the students during lectures will be elicited by frequent questions on the topic presented. Practical training

Verification of learning

OStudent evaluation will be based on oral examination and evaluation will take into account the comprehensive knowledge achieved as well as the logical reasoning and the ability to link and use knowledge derived from previous basic studies with the knowledge specific of the discipline under evaluation. Students will be evaluated even for the fluency of their language and for the ability with which they express their concepts and knowledge
