The integrated course will provide students with a deeper knowledge on obstetric diseases and benign gynecological diseases, and will acquire skills for better cooperation with specialists in the management of traditional and innovative surgical techniques. The students will acquire basic knowledge and notions on diagnostics and pharmacological treatments applied to the emergency in obstetrical pathologies, improving their abilities in collaborating with medical doctors specialists in applied technologies and approaches.
Basic knowledge in biochemistry, biology and molecular biology is recommended.
Methods of administration; drug transport; distribution and binding with blood proteins; biotransformation and bioactivation; excretion; pharmacokinetic parameters: bioavailability, volume of distribution, half-life, clearance.
Drug interaction with targets; different categories of receptors; concentration-response curve; agonists and antagonists; sensitization and tolerance to drugs.
Dose-response curve; therapeutic index; individual differences in drug response and adverse drug reactions; principles of pharmacogenomics; drug-drug and drug-environment interactions.
Uterine stimulants and inhibitors; estrogens and progestins; opioid and non-opioid analgesics; antibiotics; simulation of pulmonary maturation via corticosteroids.

Frontal lectures with a review on concepts acquired during stages and based on the didactic material. Lecturers will stimulate and encourage discussions during lessons, also by means of electronic material, including slides and videos.
Verification of learning
Assessment of the skills acquired in the fundamental principles of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology. The evaluation will be based on oral/written (Pharmacology) or oral/written assays (Internal Medicine). Students will have to show knowledge and understanding, applying knowledge and understanding and communication skills. The final vote will take into consideration active participation to lessons.
